FROM 1865 TO 1896, PHILADELPHIA MAPMAKER EARNEST HEXAMER PREPARED THOUSANDS OF HIGHLY DETAILED INDUSTRIAL SITE PLANS WITH BIRDS-EYE VIEWS. THESE WERE MADE FOR VARIOUS FIRE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND INCLUDED PLANS FOR DOZENS OF AREA GLASS WORKS.
THE HERITAGE GLASS MUSEUM HAS OBTAINED THE PLANS OF SIX SOUTH JERSEY GLASS WORKS FROM THE MAP COLLECTION OF THE FREE LIBRARY OF PHILADELPHIA. TO DATE THESE SURVEYS HAVE ONLY BEEN AVAILABLE TO VIEW ON MICROFILM OR ONLINE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE BEEN DISPLAYED FOR PERSONAL VIEWING.
